Women in Dentistry

21 September 2017

The annual Women in Dentistry event brings together students, alumni, faculty staff and dental professionals to celebrate women in the dentistry field and share their personal and professional experiences in the industry.

About the speaker

This year, the address will be delivered by University of Sydney alumna, Dr Evelyn Howe, the first woman in Australia to hold a PhD in dentistry.

Dr Evelyn Howe was Associate Dean and Head of Professional Practice in the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Sydney. She is a specialist in both clinical and health psychology with a focus on medical rehabilitation and recovery from trauma. She has consulted to several NSW hospitals, including Sydney Dental Hospital, NSW Police and the Australian Defence Force.

Holding the distinction as the first woman in Australia to hold a PhD in dentistry gives Dr Howe a very personal perspective on the changes she has witnessed in dentistry over the past 50 years and the many 'firsts' for women breaking new ground in the profession.
