Active Spaces innovation and research network launch

24 May 2017

Presented by the Physical Activity Exercise and Energy Expenditure theme, Charles Perkins Centre in collaboration with the Active Spaces partners.

This launch focuses on improving health and wellbeing through supportive physical spaces, and a multi-disciplinary innovation and research collaboration.

The physical spaces in which we work, learn and play can influence our health and wellbeing. As a response to this, there is an increased focus on creation of purposeful, active spaces that potentially foster better wellbeing, collaboration and productivity.

In recent years, new design concepts and occupational environments, such as active design, have emerged. However, there is no substantial evidence base on their effect on physical and mental wellbeing, and productivity and how these potential impacts may be leveraged.

This is an exciting and developing field and we aim to establish a leading collaboration in the field of active spaces. A holistic and innovative approach is necessary by combining experts, practitioners and policy makers from a range of disciplines.

This launch aims to highlight current research and practise in the field, as well as expand the network and showcase its potential for meaningful collaboration and output. Table discussions on Active Spaces and its potential will be accompanied by hands-on demonstrations of emerging technology.
