ASEAN Forum 2017: Women in ASEAN

In the 50th year of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, ASEAN Forum 2017 explores the role of women in our region; acknowledging accomplishments and shedding light on the challenges faced by women in Southeast Asia.

ASEAN Forum 2017 will bring together leading academic thinkers, activists and policy makers to discuss and debate the political, economic and social position of women in Southeast Asia and what is being done to advance the standing of women in the region. The forum will focus on women’s involvement in three key domains:

  • Work
  • Politics
  • Development 

Keynote Speaker 

Dr Kelly Gerard, Senior Lecturer, Department of Political Science and International Relations, University of Western Australia

Kelly Gerard is a senior lecturer of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Western Australia. Her research spans political economy, development and social movements in Southeast Asia. She is the author of,ASEAN’s engagement of civil society: Regulating dissent, basingstoke (Palgrave Macmillan) and co-editor of the book series, Studies in the political economy of public policy (Palgrave Macmillan) as well as the author of numerous chapters focusing on ASEAN and politics in Southeast Asia. Kelly is a Research Associate at the Asia Research Centre, Murdoch University where she previously held the position of Postdoctoral fellow. She was also previously a visiting Research Fellow at the Southeast Asia Research Centre, City University of Hong Kong (2014-2015).
