Doing nutrition better: A fresh approach

6 August 2019

For too long our traditional approaches to nutrition in Australia have failed to deliver the desired outcomes. Two thirds of us are living with obesity or overweight. Many are on fad diets that don’t work and might even be harmful, and others try unsuccessfully to follow official dietary guidelines. Why is it so hard?

This workshop will present a new approach to nutrition which will explain why we find it so hard to follow nutritional advice modern food environments that exploit and work against our biology. Armed with a new understanding of our biology, we will combine this with the practical techniques to deliver nutritional behaviour change.

Attending this workshop will help you

  • gain a clear overview of the need for interdisciplinary thinking in nutrition
  • recognise the importance of nutrient-specific appetites
  • understand how nutrient specific appetites interact with human food environments to influence health
  • recognise behaviours that need to be changed for better nutrition
  • identify behaviour change techniques that address dietary habits at the individual and population level
