National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

Join us on campus for a range of events and activities open to our community and the general public to mark National Reconciliation Week from 27 May to 3 June:

National Reconciliation Week Markets
Indigenous food vendors, artists, cultural workshops and live music
Launch into National Reconciliation Week 2019 with a visit to the Indigenous Markets at the University of Sydney. Find out more about traditional medicines from Gamilaroi and Ularoi healers, tuck into a kangaroo pie or cuisine with an Indigenous twist, check out some handcrafted artwork and take part in artist-led jewellery making workshops or Taronga Zoo’s Animals of the Dreaming workshop.

Cultural Healing Workshop
DhabiyaanBaa Maarumali – healing through cultural immersion
An Intimate program that explores the connection between tradition cultural healing and modern-day counselling techniques. Gamilaroi and Ularoi Healers sharing knowledge, ceremony and medicine.

Sunrise Boxercise Session
Join the Tribal Warrior’s ‘Clean Slate without Prejudice Program’ during National Reconciliation week for a taste of this empowering routine and fitness initiative that supports Indigenous young people in the Redfern community.

Mabo Day event

Join Michael Bani, Director of Kayin Revolution, ex-NRL player and a proud Torres Strait Islander man as he talks about his commitment to integrating Indigenous Culture with modern day traditions. Michael will be joined in a panel discussion by Associate Lecturer Jasper Garay, from the Sydney School of Public Health and Larissa Minniecon, an active local community member.
