OLE Launch: The Science of Health and Wellbeing

6 February 2018

Healthy Sydney University, School of Life and Environmental Sciences and the Charles Perkins Centre invite you to the launch of a brand new unit of study for 2018, OLET1616 The Science of Health and Wellbeing. This unit is part of the University's new undergraduate curriculum. The new curriculum includes a number of Open Learning Environment ('OLE') units that encourage our students to expand their areas of interest outside their disciplinary expertise.

OLET1616 The Science of Health and Wellbeing is the first of its kind in an Australian university. It teaches first year students the basic skills and knowledge required to be healthy during university and beyond. The unit introduces to students the most recent and up to date scientific evidence on improving health and wellbeing. Embedded within this is an understanding of cultural competence and awareness of how our communities and environments affect our health. The unit of study has been developed by a multidisciplinary team of University of Sydney researchers with input and feedback from current University of Sydney students.

OLET1616 The Science of Health and Wellbeing has seven modules, covering: nutrition and diet; physical activity; sleep; alcohol and other drugs; and social and emotional wellbeing. These areas have been identified as crucial throughout the lifespan for good health and wellbeing but are particularly important during young adulthood to help young people succeed in the transition from school to university.

The unit of study will be officially launched by Professor Adam Bridgeman (Director, Education Innovation) and Professor Margaret Allman-Farinelli (Chair, Healthy Sydney University). Join us for the launch of this exciting new venture, include a sneak peek of some of the modules. For further information on the unit of study, please take a look at the unit of study outline and the Interdisciplinary Studies Handbook 2018.

This event requires registration for catering purposes and access to the building. To access the seminar room, please arrive no later than 5pm so the Charles Perkins Centre concierge can assist you in accessing Level 6.
